Recently, I learned about two properties which are available for holiday rental, roughly between the Somme and the sea. I have often been asked for advice on family accommodation for people who want to visit the battlefields as part of a family holiday framework. These two places look ideal and the charges for 2003 seem very reasonable, so I include them here. The drive to the Somme takes about 45 minutes, and to Ypres or Paris, about 2 hours.

One property is a rural cottage which sleeps 4, and the other is a town-house which sleeps 6.

The cottage is located in the quiet rural village of Boufflers in the Authie valley, which is an area of great historical interest and also natural charm. The small market town of Auxi-le-Château is five miles away; Abbeville and Hesdin (the French home of “The Wine Society”) are about ten miles away.

The second rental property is a townhouse in the historic town of Hesdin,  not far from the main square.
