HELP AND
ADVICE
Since 1996 I've received many requests for help
and advice from people who are planning visits to the
Western Front battlefields. I'm more than happy to help anyone, if I
can, as the more people who visit these places and gain the direct insight
into what happened there - an insight which only comes from being there
- the better.
The areas in which I spend most of my time, and which I have most
familiarity with, are the Somme and Ypres, although I have visited most parts
of the old British sector at one time or another.
I can offer advice on how to get there, where to stay,
what to see and which books and maps will be useful to you before and
during your visit.
If you are planning any kind of visit to the battlefields
and think I can be of any help - you have only to ask.
I work as a full-time battlefield guide, offering the following types
of tours:
PRIVATE VISITS
I'm available, at certain times of the year, to accompany
and guide private visits to the Western Front battlefields and
I can arrange transport and accomodation for you. Meet-up points can
be in the UK or in France. Please use the e-mail link at the end
of this page if you'd like to discuss this
service.
SMALL-GROUP BATTLEFIELD VISITS
In addition, I guide small-group private visits (as small as one person.)
Travelling in a small group by car means that we will will
not be limited to using large hotels, usually some distance from the main
sites of interest. Instead we will be able to stay in
comfortable, friendly guest-houses in the heart of the battlefield areas
themselves. We will also be able to visit many of the
important, but less accessible sites which larger groups often
have to pass by.
Visits can be centred in the Somme or Ypres areas, or both.
SCHOOL VISITS
I usually guide between 15 and 20 school visits per year. I arrange
an itinerary to meet the school's needs and visit each school to talk to
students and/or parents.
If you are interested in receiving further details on any
of these visits, please use the e-mail link below.
